Dear Friends,
If you know Dan & Kathleen Moroney, then you know what an amazing family they have…or maybe you don’t. Dan and Kathleen Moroney have three beautiful children, one of which is Shannon (age 7). She suffers from a rare neurodevelopmental disorder known as Rett Syndrome. This disease has left Shannon unable to speak or walk, and has affected her overall development, among other afflictions. Presently there is no cure for Rett Syndrome. Many of you may have received the invitation over the past several years to participate in the local Rett Syndrome Golf Tournament. This event has helped raise money to support international research toward a cure. Thank you so very much! Their close friends within the St. Thomas, St. Francis, Xavier and Brophy communities are now focusing our efforts on Shannon and her many needs.
Over the past few years we have been asked by many of you, “What can we do to help the Moroneys?” We have asked ourselves the same question many times. Because they would never use their situation involving Shannon to ask for help, sympathy or anything else, a number of us have gotten together to throw a “Surprise Party” to show them how much we care, admire and love them. In doing so, we have a goal of raising significant funds to buy a handicapped accessible van (cost is approximately $50,000), to help make their home more handicapped accessible and provide financial support for the many needs they encounter daily in raising a handicapped daughter.
Our committee is asking you to make a donation in whatever amount your heart and pocketbook allows. You will receive an invitation to celebrate with Shannon and her family on Friday, November 16, 2007. Invitations will be mailed shortly. Please do your best to send in your contribution and reply by November 1st, so that our team can determine the total gift amount to be given.
